Personalized Senior Living Assessments

A careful look at health, daily routines, budget, and personal preferences to figure out which type of senior living truly fits.

Overview

Every good senior living decision starts with an honest picture of where things stand today. Our assessment is a relaxed, in-depth conversation with you and your loved one, not a clinical checklist.

We learn about medical needs, mobility, memory, daily routines, social life, faith, hobbies, finances, and where family lives. Then we turn that picture into clear guidance on which level of care makes sense now and what may be needed later.

Who it's for

  • Families who are not sure whether a parent needs independent living, assisted living, or memory care
  • Adult children coordinating care from out of town
  • Seniors who want to plan ahead before a crisis forces a decision
  • Families after a hospital stay, fall, or new diagnosis

How Porchlight helps

Care and safety review

We look at activities of daily living, medications, mobility, fall risk, and memory to understand how much support is needed.

Lifestyle and preferences

Location, apartment size, dining, pets, activities, faith communities, and personality all shape where someone will thrive.

Budget clarity

We talk through monthly costs, long-term care insurance, veterans benefits, and home sale timing so recommendations stay realistic.

A written plan

You receive a clear summary of recommended care levels and next steps you can share with siblings and other decision-makers.

Serving Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico and Central Virginia

We meet with families in person across Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico, and Hanover, and by phone or video for relatives who live out of town or out of state.

Senior Living Assessments questions

What happens during a senior living assessment?

We talk with you and your loved one about health, mobility, memory, daily routines, finances, and preferences. Afterward we explain which level of care fits now, what may be needed later, and what your next steps are.

Does my parent need to be there?

Whenever possible, yes. Including your loved one helps them feel heard and gives us a better picture. If that is not possible right now, we can start with family members and include your loved one later.

How is Porchlight paid?

Some communities pay us a referral fee when a family we help moves in, and families can also hire us for paid advisory services. We explain exactly how we are paid before you commit, and we only recommend communities that fit your loved one.
