What is independent living?
Independent living in Richmond, VA is designed for older adults who can manage daily life on their own but want an easier, more social lifestyle. Think private apartments or cottages, chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, transportation, and a calendar full of activities.
Many people choose independent senior living to stop worrying about yard work and home repairs, or to be closer to friends and family. Some communities also offer a path to higher levels of care on the same campus, which can make future transitions easier.

Independent Living questions
What is the difference between independent living and a continuing care retirement community?
A rental independent living community charges a monthly fee and usually does not guarantee future care. A continuing care retirement community (CCRC) typically charges an entrance fee plus monthly fees and offers assisted living, memory care, or nursing care on the same campus. Contracts vary, so review them carefully.
Does independent living include personal care?
Usually not. Independent living focuses on housing, meals, housekeeping, and activities. If help with bathing, dressing, or medications is needed, residents may bring in home care or move to assisted living.
How is Porchlight paid?
Some communities pay us a referral fee when a family we help moves in, and families can also hire us for paid advisory services. We explain exactly how we are paid before you commit, and we only recommend communities that fit your loved one.
